    The South Bend YWCA says a planned protest of state funding cuts is back on.In a release issued late Thursday, the YWCA states it received word from the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence that an agreement had been reached and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute would restore threatened funding cuts.   • South Bend Silver Hawks switch affiliation to Chicago Cubs

    The South Bend Silver Hawks franchise will have a new affiliation. The Chicago Cubs announced Thursday they have signed a Player Development Contract with the South Bend franchise to serve as their Single-A Midwest League affiliate team. The contract is expected to run through 2018.

    Yesterday morning there was a fatal accident in South Bend. Dora Bonilla had just dropped her four year old off at school when her car collided with a semi-truck. And it wasn't the first time that kind of accident has happened at the intersection of State Road Two and Quince.In 2012, there were about 188,000 crashes in ALL of Indiana. Last year there were more than 2,000 traffic crashes in St. Joe County alone. And some of those crashes are happening at highly dangerous intersections.

  • Preventing elder abuse: getting back to the golden rule

    The Indiana Adult Protective Services received nearly 40,000 reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation of adults last year. Of those reports, unit two which encompasses Kosciusko, St. Joseph, Marshall and Elkhart counties, received over 5,000 calls.
