  • Elkhart County Police Department starts Lateral Entry Program to recruit new officers

    The Elkhart Police Department has kicked off the Lateral Entry Program today, designed to attract full-time law enforcement officers in the area. The Department is 13 officers short of their budgeted 126, so they're trying to bring over qualified, experienced individuals as a way to cut down on hiring and training time. 

  • Michiana health officials react to first human Zika case in Indiana

    Indiana health officials have confirmed the first human case of the Zika virus. During a news conference Tuesday morning in Indianapolis, the State Health Department said the virus was found in a person who had recently traveled to Haiti. Officials said the patient did not have to be hospitalized and has made a full recovery. The health commissioner said the risk of contracting Zika in Indiana remains low.
