  • 25 businesses cited in Berrien County for selling tobacco to children

    The Berrien County Health Department has cited 25 businesses since October 2013. They say they were all selling tobacco to children under eighteen. The Department does regular checks. They send in kids undercover to try to purchase tobacco products. They also educate vendors on how to check IDs and on what signs they must have in stores.

  • Big changes for public transportation in Berrien County

    Berrien county has four bus agencies...and that's three too many according to the Southwest Michigan Planning Commission. "You will not find another county in Michigan or really you're hard pressed nationwide to find another county that has four transit providers," John Egelhaaf, Executive director of SWMPC, said. Egelhaaf says that makes things confusing and costly for bus riders.

  • The Starke County Sheriff's Department says a man is missing tonight

    Police say 32 year old Joshua Simpkins is missing tonight. According to police, Simpkins is 5 feet tall, 128 pounds. He has reddish hair and glasses. Police say Simpkins also has down syndrome. He was last scene wearing dark blue jeans, a neon yellow and green t-shirt and black shoes. If you have any information on where he might be call the Starke County Sheriff's Department at 772-3771.

    Budget cuts, hiring freezes and layoffs through attrition are all coming to St. Joseph County government.In a letter from to elected officials and department heads, St. Joseph County Commissioner Andrew Kostielney, Council President Rafael Morton and County Auditor Peter Mullen announced a series of efforts to reduce the St. Joseph County budget.
