  • "Freaky February" breaks hot and cold winter records

    Sunday marks the first day of March... but it's February that has everyone talking.More than 20 U-S cities set records for the warmest meteorological winter... which runs from December 1 through the end of February. Meanwhile, the other half of the country felt the coldest and in some cases (like here in South Bend) snowiest winter yet. It's a polarizing paradox some on social media are dubbing, "Freaky February."

  • Boone County uses beet juice to save on salt

    They say it's their secret to "beeting" the weather. In Boone County, Ind. they're mixing in beet juice with their salt.They say it cuts down on the salt that's needed - a big money saver as salt prices continue to soar. It's also more environmentally friendly, gentler on equipment, and more effective at fighting off snow from city streets.

    Just hours after Sunday's morning mass, students started lining up for their chance to say their final farewell to Rev. Ted Hesburgh. Doors to the Stepan Center didn't open until 5 p.m., but as early as an hour before that, hundreds of students were already outside waiting... all for a chance for a ticket to attend Father Ted's public tribute on Wednesday night.
