  • Elkhart Council Committee holds meeting for ordinance to create three-foot distance for cars passing bicyclists

    Elkhart motorists may have to watch their distance when passing bicyclists. The Public Health and Safety Committee of the Elkhart City Council held a meeting to discuss an ordinance which would establish a minimum three-foot passing distance for motor vehicles passing bicyclists.

  • Henry Davis Jr. submits letter announcing temporary leave of absence.

    South Bend Common Councilman Henry Davis Jr. is taking a temporary leave of absence from his Council duties.In a letter to Council President Oliver Davis, Henry Davis Jr. said he is taking a medical leave to concentrate on his health. He said he is unable to comment on his July 19 arrest for Operating While Intoxicated, under the advisement of council.

    Recent statistics show 10 percent of all athletes regardless of their sport suffer a concussion every year. Now Doctors Express Urgent Care in Granger is offering concussion tests. According to Doctors Express, these tests use a computerized assessment tool, developed by Axon Sports, that has been used by many specialists including physicians with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Memorial Hospital and Notre Dame Athletics.

  • Plymouth man arrested, charged with child molestation

    A reported sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Plymouth has resulted in an arrest.Plymouth Police responded to a report of a girl that had been sexually assaulted shortly before 4:30pm on Friday afternoon. The reported assault happened in a residence on the 100 block of Franklin St. After investigating, police identified 67-year-old Jonas Olvera as a suspect. Police say Olvera was visiting from Mission, TX.

  • Teachers get ready for fall thanks to ETHOS Science Center in Elkhart

    As the start of school gets closer, some teachers in Elkhart are getting ready for class. Starting Monday, July 28, 2014 and continuing over the following two weeks, ETHOS Science Center is hosting 75 area educators as they take part in intensive professional development activities.
