  • Elkhart Police need your help finding a possible intruder

    This past Saturday, police received a call from a female living on the 1000 Block of N. Michigan Street in Elkhart. She was woken up by a noise in her home. She then located an intruder who she described as a white man between the ages of 22 and 38. She says he was 5'6" to 6 feet tall and 150 to 190 pounds. Police say she confronted the subject and struck him several times with her hands and arms. She then struck the intruder in the head with an object.

  • UPDATE: Third suspect now in custody for death of five-year-old boy at Michigan City day care

    UPDATE: According to LaPorte County Jail records, Erica Merriweather, 25, is now in custody. She was booked shortly before noon Tuesday. Merriweather is charged with Reckless Homicide and Involuntary Manslaughter.

  • UPDATE: Injuries narrowly avoided after car crashes into storefront in South Bend

    An ugly scene on Mishawaka Ave. was avoided by few feet Tuesday afternoon in South Bend. Mishawaka Ave. is still completely blocked from the 24th St. to Ironwood Dr. after a car crashed into a storefront shortly after noon. Officers on the scene on the 2200 block of Mishawaka Ave. said a Mercedes sedan was traveling south on 23rd St. when it came to a T-shaped intersection with Mishawaka Ave., and rolled right through it.

  • Indiana Green Roof Week recognized in South Bend

    Governor Mike Pence designated the week of July 28 to August 1, Indiana Green Roof Week, to pay recognize the efforts of those in Indiana who are working to make the state a more sustainable place. Governor Pence is highlighting the benefits of green roofs that help manage storm water as a resource rather than a waste product.

  • Berrien County Narcotics Unit and Sheriff's Department found a pound of marijuana in a home

    The Narcotics Unit and the County Sheriff's Department arrested two people at the 1000 block of Pavone in Benton Harbor.A search warrant was sent out for officers to look for a man and a woman inside a residence. During the search, officers recovered over a pound of marijuana, packaging material, a scale and a loaded pistol inside the home.The female suspect was questioned and later released. The male suspect lived at the address.
